Peter Kowalke
     Producer, Editor, Videographer

GWS was produced, written and directed by Peter Kowalke. Peter is a contributing editor for Home Education Magazine (Peter writes the Grown Homeschooler column for Home Education Magazine). Peter has written for Growing Without Schooling and Unschooling Ourselves, speaks regularly at homeschooling conferences and, in 1997, was the subject of a feature article in the New York Times Sunday Magazine.

Peter has a strong background as a writer/producer, having founded Nation Magazine, Nation’s annual conference, and the Spiral Chambers poetry syndicate. Peter also served as editor of Hampshire College’s weekly newspaper, The Forward. In 1999 and 2000, he directed the video portion of the Mentor High School graduation ceremonies (broadcast live to roughly 7,000 attendees and sold via mail-order). In 2001, Peter spent his summer interning at Cleveland Magazine.

Peter is currently pursuing a degree in journalism at Ohio University’s Scripps School of Journalism. After college, Peter plans to become a magazine editor.

I must admit, I found the working world to be easy to enter into as a former homeschooler. And I think this is the case for a lot of us. Work, applying things to real life— we’re doing this all the time when we’re homeschooling.
